Hi, Jill’s husband here! I remember as a child most our my family’s vacations were spent in a tent. I have a lot of very fond and happy memories camping all throughout the northeast. Being from New Jersey, we spent most of our camping trips in the different regions of Upstate New York. One of our favorite camping destinations was the Catskills, where we would hike the waterfalls and play in the natural pools. We also visited the Finger Lakes region, Watkins Glen, and Fort Ticonderoga among other great places. To this day, camping is one of my favorite ways to travel.

Camping was not my mom’s favorite way to vacation, but she always made sure that we had the equipment we needed, as well as things to entertain my brother and me. We always had games and toys that we could play with at the campsite. I was big into Fisher Price Adventure People, and they would often find their way into my bag.

Of course, we always had a deck of playing cards for rainy days and at night when we would gather in the screen tent to play cards. I remember one specific trip to the Catskills when we met a very nice family from Canada who taught us how to play King’s Corners, a game that became one of our favorites. Other go-to card games included Concentration, Go Fish, Crazy 8’s, War, and Rummy. Nowadays, thanks to the introduction from Jill, a card game staple is Five Crowns.
