How to Keep Your Child Hydrated Properly When Involved in Physical Activities

This post is sponsored by BODYARMOR. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

My children are outdoor people. Whether they are playing soccer or basketball or swimming in the pool, they spend a majority of their free time outside when the weather permits.

We live in Texas and it’s HOT and humid.

How to keep your child hydrated properly during physical activities. It's a must read for all parents.

Being educated on how to keep your child hydrated properly is a must for this mama. I’m just going to be totally honest, I never wanted to spend money on sports drinks of any sort in the past. I would always just pack a cooler full of iced cold water.

I’ve always been told that water is the best thing for you, and I’ve never heard of anyone drinking too much water.

I was so very WRONG!

We had a horrible scare this past Fall with my mother.

She was in ICU for five days due to excessive water intake that threw off her sodium to a dangerous low-level. She had several seizures as a result of this. Losing sodium quickly is a medical emergency that we weren’t aware of. It can cause a loss of consciousness, seizures, and even coma.

She was diagnosed with Hyponatremia, which is the medical term for the condition in which your sodium level falls below the normal range.

It was a very scary five days. She was completely incoherent and doesn’t remember any of it.

Thankfully, she has had a full recovery.

Here’s what the doctors told us about how to keep hydrated properly

In order to avoid Hyponatremia, drink a glass of water, but then after that, drink a sports drink to make sure your electrolytes do not get out of balance.

So, now I make sure I always bring along both BodyArmor sports drinks and water whenever we are engaged in any physical or outside activity. Our whole family enjoys BODYARMOR which provides superior hydration and comes in 9-great tasting flavors: fruit punch, orange mango, strawberry banana, tropical punch, blackout berry, mixed berry, grape, watermelon strawberry, and lemonade.

We’ve tried all the flavors. I have a favorite flavor, which is the strawberry banana, but my kids absolutely love all the fruity flavors. I buy BODYARMOUR versus the other sports drinks because BODYARMOR  contains no artificial flavors or sweeteners and has potassium-packed electrolytes, vitamins, and coconut water.

I buy  BODYARMOUR at our closest Kroger. Be sure to check out their following promo dates to get an extra good deal:

    • 4 for $5 on the following dates:
      • 6/7 – 6/13

      • 6/28 – 7/4:  10/$10

I plan on stocking up for the summer and fall months with these promotions this month.
