Springtime!

Have you ever wondered what the phrase “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb!” really means?

The phrase implies that the weather at the beginning of March is very cold but the weather is warmer at the end of the month. It is also possible to just say “in like a lion and out like a lamb.” It’s a shorter way to say the same thing.

However, we all know that in much of the country April can be a bit rainy, but that is okay because the rain provides moisture to the ground and plants as they start to bloom. Thus, April showers bring May flowers.

What do Mayflowers bring? Pilgrims, of course!

Sorry, but I just could not resist myself. I remember saying that as a child. See if your kids would get it.

Spring is a time of rebirth. The first spring flowers. Trees start to bloom. Bees start buzzing around pollinating all the plants and bringing nectar back to the hive to make honey. Bears and other animals come out of hibernation. And, on farms, you will start to see lambs, piglets, calves, kids, and colts being born.

Spring is such a wonderful time of year. In the evening, I love taking my fur babies for walks, smelling the fresh spring air, and seeing all the blooming flowers. Spring is the time of rebirth, and I have been seeing the momma ducks with their little ducklings swimming in the lake near my house.

My kids have always loved to go to the park and fly kites on a nice, sunny, breezy day, as well as have a picnic with fresh vegetables, fruit, and hardboiled eggs. I always like to make fresh mint iced tea and lemonade to drink.
