The Pilgrim Story online course is for grades 3-6 and is a self-paced, interactive course. It’s so enjoyable that I believe it would be a wonderful family study. Even though I am a public school teacher now instead of my past role as a homeschool mom, I learned so much additional information about The Pilgrim Story than any other resources that has come across my desk. Of course, the biblical history is fascinating, but legally I would have to omit the biblical aspect. I can honestly say that I have gained so much additional knowledge after reviewing this online course.
Dayspring Christian Academy goal is to teach students the true history of the Pilgrims from original sources through the Principle Approach method of education. I used this exact approach when I homeschooled my own children.
Each lesson begins with a short review of the previous lesson and ends with a short quiz. The lessons are about 30 minutes give or take. It is recommended that a student only completes one lesson per day. Students are encouraged to print the note taking document and take notes while listening to the powerpoint presentation. This is such an important skill that a lot of homeschool students overlook for various reasons. I appreciated how the narrator underlined the important key words to help the student to decipher important vocabulary.
Lessons may include vocabulary, time-lines, quotes, mapping, scripture, latin roots, stem activities and reasoning questions. At the end of each lesson, the author includes suggested reading resources and enrichment activities. In some lessons, the author encourages the student to compare different versions of scripture. It’s one of my favorite parts of this curriculum.

The Pilgrim Story will not be suitable for a non-Christian. The Pilgrim Story bases all lessons on the concept that God is in charge of all men, not human leaders. I believe that this concept is going to have to be explained in greater depth as a parent. Unfortunately, this concept is not readily practiced in today’s government.
I review and create a lot of curriculum, and The Pilgrim Story is amazing to me. I certainly wished I had this curriculum when I homeschooled my own children. It can be used individually or as a family setting. For older children, I would just assign additional research or writing assignments to go along with each lesson. It’s a very user-friendly and can easily be adaptable for all ages.
