According to the National Wood Flooring Association, the dollar amount spent on wood flooring in the U.S. is up roughly 400 percent from 20 years ago.

Crazy, huh?

There really isn't much to wood floor maintenance. You just need to learn the tricks and tips to keeping your hardwood floors looking beautiful.

As the demand for wood floors increases, so does the amount of effort we the consumers put into preserving them. Whether you’ve ‘inherited’ wood floors through the purchase of a home or have had wood floors newly installed, you’ve probably wondered what is the best way to maintain these wood floors without losing your mind.

Don’t be stressed! There really isn’t a lot that goes into wood floor maintenance if you do it right! You just need to know the tips and tricks for successfully maintaining your wood floors.

Wood Floor Maintenance Tips for the busy mom

There really isn't much to wood floor maintenance. You just need to learn the tricks and tips to keeping your hardwood floors looking beautiful.

Small Rug Hack

One helpful tip is to simply put a small rug by every door to attract the incoming dirt and dust. Of course, make sure your rug is adorable.

Never Wet Mop

Do not use a regular mop or steam mop on your hardwood floors because it can cause major moisture damage. Instead, use a Swiffer WetJet. A device like this will lift the dirt and grime off your hardwood floors safely. I love this nifty device and use it on both my wood and tile floors.

Do a Daily Quick Fix

Make a point to use a Swiffer sweeper on the areas that tend to get a lot of dirt daily, like under your kitchen table and main walkways. I insist on training my children for this job. My kids love using the Swiffer Sweeper and Swiffer duster extender.

Get On It

Stay on top of the maintenance of your floors. If you see any damage to your hardwood floors, like a space, bubble, or crack, immediately call a professional to come and repair it. The longer you wait, the more money it will cost to repair a larger section of your beautiful hardwood floors.

Felt Protectors are your Friends

Invest in these babies. Place them under the legs of all of your furniture; don’t forget your kitchen chairs. This will prevent scratching. Be sure to replace them periodically because they do collect dirt. They are super cheap and worth the small expense.

 Keep Absorbent Cloth Readily

Always have a clean absorbent cloth handy for little spills. Make sure you clean up any spills immediately to avoid stains and use a WetJet to clean up larger spill.

Rid those Scuffs

Use a tennis ball and rub it over the scuff. This tends to be the best trick for removing those nasty scuffs. However, you can also use a stain marker, too.

Invest in a Facelift

Have a professional come in to lightly sand and recoat your wood flooring with an additional layer of finish every five to seven years. Along with daily upkeep, this will help to keep them beautiful year after year.
