With vacation sites and destinations opening, and air travel not being recommended due to the Coronavirus, this summer will be “the summer of the road trip”.  It is understandable that a lot of people will choose staycations over vacations; however, many people will choose to travel by car, whether it be a day-trip or weekend away.

When on a road trip, we absolutely love playing games with the kids. Some of the games we would play did not involve anything special. For instance, one game my husband’s family would play was known as the “Sign Game”. The basic premise of the game was to find a sign with a word containing a letter from the alphabet, and the first person to reach Z would win. Of course, the letters J, Q, and Z were the hardest to find.

Other fun games that did not require supplies were the State Game in which each person would name the states beginning with a letter of the alphabet in round-robin fashion. Of course, there was also the license plate game in which we would try to find license plates from all 50 states.

Of course, in addition to the fun games we would play to pass the miles, we would often have sing-a-longs to what was playing on the radio, or we would sing songs such as Little Rabbit Foofoo, The Ants Came Marching, and She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain.
