Recipe Type: Crock Pot
Author: Jill Craft at
Prep time: 5 mins
Total time: 5 mins
Serves: 6-8
This is the easiest chicken and dumplings recipe. It’s a huge hit in our family. We never have any left-overs!
  • 3 lbs. of chicken (I use frozen)
  • 1 large can of cream of chicken soup
  • 1 small can of cream of chicken soup
  • 2 cans of refrigerated biscuits ( I use the cheapo kind)
  1. Place chicken in bottom of crock pot (I put in frozen)
  2. Place cans of cream of chicken soup on top of chicken
  3. Cook on High for 4 hours or low for 7-8 hours
  4. Thirty (30) minutes before serving time, cut biscuits in quarters and stir in chicken mixture
  5. When dumplings rise to the top, they are finished
  6. Dig in!

You can add carrots and peas if you wish. If you want to add more dumplings, just add more soup.

When is the last time you made Chicken and Dumplings for your crew?

  6. Andrea Studt says:

do you use boneless, skinless frozen chicken? I have a bunch of thighs in freezer, but they are with bones. Thanks!

  7. My dumplings floated right away.

  8. I make chicken stew and dumplings quite a bit in the winter, going to have to try this recipe next time! Of course, I’ll add a can or 2 of VegAll, drained, can’t wait to try this!

  9. So do you cook the biscuits before putting them in there? Or do you just throw them in there from the can?

  10. Do you add water to the soup before adding to the chicken? Seems there is not enough liquid the put the biscuits in.

  13. We made this the other night and it was very good. My kids loved it. Even my very picky 3 year old ate seconds.

This recipe is so easy and tasty! What I did to solve the (not enough liquid) problem was when I made it I used two big cans of cream of chicken + one of those cans full of milk + half of one of those cans of water. It made plenty of liquid and it still had very good flavor 🙂

We have chess club today and I was hoping to come home to a fully prepared meal so I was thinking about throwing the dumplings in before I walk out the door. That will mean they cook for four hours. Any thoughts on this idea? Thanks!!
