I have to admit, I am a bit challenged when it comes to the fine arts and I was never exposed to classical music growing up.  I do however want my children to appreciate the Godly composers from our past.

My goal is not to necessarily make them Classical Music lovers, but simply to make them aware of what is defined as pleasant music to the ear and what is acceptable to the Lord.

There are (4) composers introduced in this book: Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, and Haydn.

Each composer has 7 simple lessons that includes the biography and interesting facts, as well as vocabulary words.  Included in the book are several coloring pages to go along with the lessons.  The 55 minute CD that is included in this bundle consists of 3 pieces of music from each composer.  Also, there is a very helpful timeline at the end of the book and suggested resources to expand on your study for the older children.

Okay, maybe math is still not their absolute favorite subject, but my 16 and 11 year old sons no longer complain about doing their math assignments each day.

My 6th grader struggles in math and to be honest, I don’t do him any justice with my math teaching skills.  I have never had a strong understanding of the subject, but managed to get by.  Both of us reached the point that we were in tears virtually every day.  Fractions posed the biggest challenge.

Immediately after receiving Mastering Essentials Skills Book 1 and the accompanying teaching DVD, my son watched the correlating lesson taught by math teacher, Rick Fisher.  Rick encourages the child to work out the sample problems on scratch paper along with him during each lesson.  Guess what?  He totally understands fractions now!  He is excelling in math and moving through the book by himself at a fast pace.  No more tears and all I have to do is grade his assignment each day.  Yay!
