Intentional Summer 2013 and FREE Family Printable

 Intentional Summer

Have you made summer plans yet?

This summer I am determined to make an Intentional Summer for our whole family.  Of course, I want us to have a few FUN and lazy days, but I also desire for us not to waste our summer doing nothing.

This summer our entire family will each pick (3) goals we want to accomplish in a 12 week period.

  1. A Spiritual Goal
  2. An Educational Goal
  3. A Personal Goal

Intentionalsummer3

I have created this FREE family Printable to help each of us to keep track with our goals.  Each of us will have a week to diligently think and pray about what we want to accomplish this summer.  Of course, I will help my little ones with their goal settings and filling out their printable., but they will actually choose their goals.  For example, one year my son decided to learn how to ride his bike without training wheels.

We all will gather together one evening to discuss our goals and determine how we can encourage one anothe.  We will have a prayer to bless our intentional summer.  We will pick one evening a week during supper to discuss our progress.  It’s so imperative that we support one another in our journeys.  It’s a priority to my husband and I that our children learn to encourage and bare one another burdens.

At the end of the 12 weeks, we  will have a Family Night party.  It has yet to be determine, we will vote on the party at the initial goal setting meeting.  It’s always something our whole family can enjoy.  I do make it clear that we are truly successful with our goals as long as we have tried our best and we continue to move forward in reaching our goals.

Will you join us in making this summer an intentional summer?  I would love to hear your goals.

A Tool for the Christian Wife!

A tool for the Christian wife - Doorpost

Being a Christian wife is a high calling, and I often struggle in this area.

I whole heartily want to be a Christian wife that will compliment my dear husband.

Often my husband gets the last bit of my energy each day.

I often have my priorities out of order.

I have been gleaning the Godly wisdom published by Doorpost, As Unto the Lord, spiral-bound book for the last six months.

As Unto the Lord  will assist you in the following areas:

  • Identify areas of sin and negligence
  • Memorize Scripture as a defense against the temptations unique to wives
  • Pray for God’s guidance and changing power in your life

As Unto the Lord includes:

  • A short set of questions and relevant Scripture passages for daily review. These are designed to help wives prayerfully examine their attitudes and actions in the light of God’s Word.
  • An in-depth, expanded series of almost 200 questions, each followed by Scripture which explains what God commands of us as wives. These are patterned after The Westminster Larger Catechism’s teaching on the Fifth Commandment and are ideal for personal study when you know you’re straying from God’s design for wives; for study with daughters as they learn to submit to parents and prepare to submit to their future husbands; as a group study with other wives; as counseling material or a helpful gift for a discouraged or rebellious wife.
  • Suggested Bible study projects and helpful forms to aid a woman in a serious study of God’s calling for her life.

How it Works for Me

As I mentioned before, I am sinner saved by His grace alone and struggle at times with my role as a Christian wife.

I found As Unto the Lord an eye opener book.  I considered it more of a manual than a book.  My favorite part of the book is the Daily Checklist.

Each evening, I go over the list and make note of the areas I need repenting.  I immediately turn to the recommended pages that include scripture references to help me in my calling as a Christian wife.

Next, I pray for the Lord’s forgiveness and then I must ask my dear husband for his forgiveness.

I mark the scripture references in the book with a sticky note, so I can mediate on them during my early morning devotion time.

I still have a lot of improvement in this area, but As Unto the Lord holds me accountable.  It has been a very helpful tool for me.  I would love to complete this book as a bible study with other women striving to be a Christian wife.

I am anxious to implement this book with my only daughter when she is the appropriate age.  I believe every mother should introduce this helpful tool to their daughters.  Being a Christian wife according to biblical terms is not the norm today.  Society calls wives who diligently strive to be helpmeets to their husbands weak.

May we train our daughter otherwise, my sisters!

Let.It.Go: How to Stop Running the Show & Start Walking in Faith!

I am so excited to share with you Karen Ehman’s new book, Let.It.Go!  She wrote this book with me in mind!

Foreword by Candace Cameron Bure

Women are wired to control. We make sure the house is clean, the meals
prepared, the children are dressed, and everyone gets to where they’re going on
time. But sometimes our strength of being conscientious can morph into the
weakness of being a slight—or all out—control freak! This humorous, yet
spiritually practical book will help you to:

Karen’s new book will empower you to:

• Take control of your schedule yet welcome interruptions from God
• Draw the line between mothering and micromanaging
• Influence your husband instead of manipulating him
• Learn to control your emotions when you can’t control the circumstances
• Stop pursuing the appearance of perfection and start pursuing the person
of God

*A companion 6 week dvd and Bible study guide is also available.

An interview with Karen about this new project:

Karen, tell us a little about why you wrote this book. Are you a control
freak?

Ummm….yeah! What woman isn’t about at least some aspect of life? We
have so many areas that we must be in charge of—at home, at work, in the
church and community. What happens is that we let our strengths of multitasking and getting jobs done morph into a weakness of being controlling.

So, are you saying controlling can actually be needed at times?

Of course we must control our homes and schedules and such. We should
work with diligence and excellence. What we have to be careful of is going
from being conscientious to being controlling. Being conscientious is doing a
job well. Being controlling is trying to manipulate the outcome. There is a
difference and we know deep down inside when we’ve crossed that line. This
book helps women determine how to control what they should, trust God with
what they can’t, and most importantly, how to decide which one is which!

What are some areas you cover in the book where women try to run the
show?

We try to be in control of our homes, our schedules, our kids, our husbands,
our circumstances, others’ opinions of us…..the list is long!
So what is at the root of why we women control?
We control because we don’t trust God. We think we know better than Him
just what is best for us. It is as old as the garden of Eden. Well, guess what?
God called and He’d like his job back!!

The holidays are coming up. Do they bring out the control freak
tendencies in women?

Oh yes….in fact. One whole chapter of the book is about my friend Lisa
Whelchel daring me five years ago to not make any decisions for a whole
three weeks RIGHT AT THE HOLIDAYS!! It was painful. And actually, in the
end, wonderful. I think this topic is so important that I’ve written a free five day
resource for women dealing with the holidays called From Chaos to Calm:
The LET. IT. GO. Christmas Challenge.

You can sign up for it FREE here.!

What is your prayer for the woman who reads your book?

I pray that through learning to relinquish control and let go of the reins, she
will be able to grab hold of her faith. That her relationship with God will
strengthen as she learns to stop trying to fix outcomes and get her own way
but seeks His perfect will for her life—and the lives of her loved ones—
instead.

You can purchase Let.It.Go as Christmas gifts for 9.98.  It’s perfect gift that will bless the special women in your life.

25 FUN Home Date Ideas!

25 Home Date Ideas! Don't stop dating because you became parents!

My husband and I have been having a home date night for over 15 years now.

Living on a single income and feeding 6 children, doesn’t leave much spending money for babysitters.

Not to mention how much it would cost to pay a reliable babysitter for 6 children.

We try to have a home date night at least one night a week, of course, life gets busy and it doesn’t always happen.

However, I believe this one area that Satan tends to get the best of us.  He is in the busineess of breaking up marriages, especially Christian marriages.  And he is pretty good at it if you ask me… considering the divorce rate among Christians is at a high rate of 50%.

Please don’t let Satan win!

Make dating your soulmate a priority!  Even if it is a home date!
