This weeks assignment is to share the struggles that we have encountered during our homeschool journey. There have been many struggles, but one specific issue that really took the joy out of our learning was……..
Trying to keep up with the GRADE-LEVEL thing ~ I have grown to detest that word, phrase, etc…. This is the most silliest thing, but the most difficult struggle that I had to give completely up to the Lord. And once I did, I can’t describe the feeling of peace that filled my heart. Admittedly, it took me 4 years to finally get the grade-level thing out of my head. So, if you are struggling with this issue or if it is a high priority to you, I encourage to really seek God’s thoughts on education.
And here is how I studied the subject of education from a biblical stand point, not by the secular world. BTW, it is completely different from what most people would interpret. Actually, it was quite alarming to me what God’s thoughts were pertaining to His view of education. I had to repent and change our philosophy of education.
First, go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to reveal to you His thoughts on this subject. Seek the Holy Spirit.
Second, look up the word education in the 1828 dictionary. This is the only dictionary that was written from a biblical stand point by Noah Webster.
Third, highlight key words in the definition and look up in all key words in the concordance including the word education.
Fourth, reason how the Lord commands us to educate our children.
Fifth, ask the Lord to assist you in educating your children His ways and journal you thoughts. I keep mine in my home school planner so I can regularly read over my thoughts and certain scripture that pertains to our new Godly philosophy of education.
My dh and I completed this study together. It has been such a blessing to our family. The study was so inspiring to us and we now realize what is truly important in our homeschool journey.
The scripture that really touched my heart when I did this study was………
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. ” Pro 9:10
I haven’t done this study yet, but I am going to…I have the Noah Webster page open and will do it when I finish my first comments. Thank you sooooooo much for this. I do feel like we’ve given God our homeschool but oftentimes things fall to the wayside and we need to re-build our structure.

That sounds like a wonderful study! My husband is all behind me in the homeschooling idea but that would be a great way for us to get on the same page with our priorities and goals for our school!

What great advice! It’s easy for me to sometimes loose track of our ultimate purpose of homeschooling. I struggle with the grade level thing at times.

Sounds like a great study. I haven’t done it and am working better at getting rid of the *grade level* thing.
Love your insight. I have checked out Webster’s and plan to do as you suggested. Thanks so very much. As for the grade issue, I try not to think about it too much. It’s kind of like the age thing for me. Just because a kid is old enough to drive doesn’t mean they should no more than just because a kid is supposed to be a certain grade doesn’t mean he’s ready for that. For everything there is a season.
I do tend to struggle with the Grade thing sometimes. Esp. when people try to pin-point how old our boys are & what grade they should be in.

WOW, temper was one of the things that was in there for us to teach and that has been my struggle this week with her. Now I know that I am on the right track and have to keep at it and not give up and go to God.
Thank you for your study outline. So often it is tempting to write our discoveries rather than encouraging others to dig in and discover for themselves. I appreciate you doing the latter.
I’ve read Noah Webster’s dictionary definition so far and it is great to read such a concise definition but so full of life! I’ll be digging deeper.
