Have the Birth of Jesus Timeline Come Alive!

Birth of Jesus Bible Study

Often we get so busy during the month of December that we forget the true meaning of Christmas- The Birth of Jesus!

Grapevine Studies  assists you as you train your children in His Holy Word. Grapevine Studies provides effective, easy-to-teach Bible curriculum to disciple ages five to adult.

This advent season we are stick-figuring through the Birth of Jesus.  The nativity timeline is coming alive in our school room each day. It is so exciting to watch my children draw and meditate on the birth of Jesus.

Lessons in the Birth of Jesus Study:

  •  The announcement
  •  The birth
  •  The proclamation
  •  The Wise Men and Herod

In the Birth of Jesus study your students will learn the chronology of the Nativity, the people involved, where Jesus traveled, and pertinent scriptures related to the Birth of Jesus.

I chose the Multi-level Birth of Jesus study for my family since our children range from 15-2 years of age.  Each morning my children come to our school room prepared with their Bible, Bible notebook, and coloring pencils/crayons.

First, we review the timeline events from the previous day.  I ask several suggested questions that are provided in the teacher’s guide.  Next, we all look up the recommended scripture for the lesson.  The older ones help the little ones. This is an important part of our study. One person reads the scripture passage while I draw the stick figures on our large dry erase board.

Birth of Jesus Bible Study

While the children are copying the simple stick figure artwork on their own notebook pages, I review and expand on the scripture passages related to their drawings.  Also, we take turns looking up any key words in the Bible dictionary.

Birth of Jesus Timeline

The last part of the lesson for the day, the children draw their favorite part of the lesson on the drawing review page and copy the scripture for the day.

My two year old even tries her very best to draw the stick figures on her own notebook pages.  She might not understand the whole concept of the birth of Jesus, but she knows for certain that Christmas is about Jesus’s birthday.

A MUST Read for All Homemakers – For the Family’s Sake!

for the family's sake cover image
For the Family’s Sake
was a tremendous encouragement to me as a homemaker who wants to make our home a haven.  Home is where I want to be and I want my dh and children to feel the same way.  Being a full time homemaker is my chosen career and where God has put me.  I’m so thankful that I saw the light before it was too late.  My oldest 2 children were 4 and 3 before I started being a full time homemaker and mommy.  When I had my first child, I never even imagined staying home.

After all, what did I go to college for? It was not even a topic of discussion between my dh and I.  Oh how the Lord changed our hearts significantly.

Susan Schaeffer Macaulay does a wonderful job in pinpointing the important elements in making a home run smoothly in a Godly way.  She stresses that making a home that is a joy, comfort, and encouragement is one of the most important things anyone can do.

She also mentions that the home is the basic building block of society. Homemaking in it’s self is a lost career.  No longer being a stay at home or a full time homemaker is a prestigious career.   However, I believe this one of Satan’s manipulative ways he uses to disrupt a Christian family home.

Homemaking may or may not be a full time, but I believe it needs to take priority over other things in our lives.

Ummm…this includes blogging, right? LOL!

For me this means also limiting our outside activities involved in homeschooling and extra-curricular activities for the children.  Yes, they are all fun, but attending every activity of interest would be detrimental to our family home life, as well as going against our family goals.  We must find balance in our lives which is such an imperative concept in training our children.

Bottom line….. You must be home in order to make a home a haven. Some of the topics discussed in this marvel of a book are..

  • Home is the best place for growing ground for children
  • Importance of bed time routine, meals as a family, and reading good books    together
  • Daily Rhythms
  • Keeping things in perspective
  • Early and Vital Day

And there is so much more.  This book inspired me to read her mother’s book,The Hidden Art of Homemaking.  Admittedly, I skimmed through that book awhile back and really couldn’t get into it, but I stuck through it and can say it was wonderful.

Also, the author is a Charlotte Mason advocate which I can totally appreciate.  Not so much in the way of education in this particular book, but as the means of treating children as people.

In a nutshell, For the Family’s Sake will definitely be one I will be putting on my dd books to read list.  It would make a great graduation or wedding shower gift.

FREE Kindle Book – The Fitting Room: Putting on the Character of Christ

FREE Kindle Book: The Fitting Room: Putting On the Character of Christ by Kelly Minister.

Grab it while you can!  This looks like an encouraging and inspirational read. Definitely looks worth saving for a rainy day!

On the back cover it reads:

Kelly Minter explores what it means—in real life—to “clothe” ourselves (Col. 3:12) in Christian virtues like forgiveness, joy, patience, compassion, and more.
Colossians 3:12 tells us to “clothe” ourselves in Christian virtues like forgiveness, joy, patience, compassion. But how does that work in real life? Can we really “dress up” in the character of Christ? Kelly Minter says the answer is yes—if we let the Master Designer do the fitting. This relatable book offers insightful Scripture study with real-life stories and simple, down-to-earth explanations of tricky concepts as justification and sanctification—stitching it all together with dry humor and down-to-earth honesty. There are no gimmicks, no guilt trips, just an irresistible invitation for women to enjoy a spiritual makeover—to put on a life that’s personally tailored by the One who knows and loves them best.

Book Review ~ Season of Grace Series

I can’t wait to run to the book store and buy the 3rd book to this endearing, heart-warming trilogy series.  I have never read Beverly Lewis but always admired the covers on her books.  In all honestly, I don’t really read fiction often.  However, when my back was broken in extreme pain, I was on pain meds, so I wanted something I could read easily.  I read the first one, The Secret , in a few days.  Then my dh bought me the second book to the trilogy, The Missing.

These books are wonderful, easy to read, and have a whole lot meat to absorb.  Lots of wisdom and spiritual examples to ponder from the authors creative writing.  Lots of character in these Amish fictional reads.

Excerpt

Twenty-one-year-old Grace Byler longs to find her missing mother and to uncover the secret that drove her to leave them three weeks before. Grace suspects the reason has to do with her father and his reserved, uncommunicative ways. This conviction led Grace to break off her betrothal to her quiet, staid beau, and she is now resigned to remain single. But when the young Amishman she thought was courting her best friend takes a sudden interest in her, Grace is befuddled and wonders if he can be trusted.

“Englisher” Heather Lang has come to Amish country to relive fond memories of her mother and to contemplate a grave medical prognosis of her own. While in Bird-in-Hand, Heather meets Grace Byler and the two young women strike up a fast friendship, amazed by how well they click.

Excerpt

When Amish wife and mother Lettie Byler disappears, her daughter Grace is left confused and ferhoodled—while her father acts like nothing’s wrong. Terminally ill, Englischer Heather Nelson seeks healing from a naturopath in Lancaster County. When paths cross, missing pieces of life’s puzzle are woven together to reveal the merciful and loving hand of God. 352 pages, softcover from Bethany.

The third book in this series, The Telling,  will come out in April.  Can’t wait to see how this adventurous, loving, and encouraging series ends.  Hurry April!

A thumbs up for me!!!

Spring Giveaway

I just love all of Elizabeth Georges’ books. They are so encouraging. So, I decided to give away the book Mom after God’s Own Heart. I just adore reading books that encourage moms in their chosen career to minister to our families. We often get frowned upon by many in this secular world. Please note… This book isn’t just for stay at home Moms. It is for any mommy that is striving to live a Godly life.

You can read more about this encouraging read full of Godly wisdom here.

My ds will be randomly picking a number on Saturday. The only rules that I stress is that you only leave one comment with a way I can reach you either by email or blog. Also, I would love for you to recommend any other encouraging Mother reads that have influenced you and filled your spirit with words of wisdom. This is optional!

Gotta run and try to win some of those wonderful prizes at Rocksinmydryer.
